Verified DoctorChronic pancreatitis is inflammation of the pancreas that does not heal or improve—it gets worse over time and leads to permanent damage. Chronic pancreatitis eventually impairs a patient’s ability to digest food and make pancreatic hormones.
There are several factors that have been identified to cause Chronic Pancreatitis like auto-immune conditions, genetic mutations due to fibrosis of the cystic duct of the pancreas, blocked the common bile duct, familial conditions and in some, chronic alcoholism.
Symptoms:
Most individuals with chronic pancreatitis experience upper abdominal pain, although some have no pain at all. The pain may spread to the back, become worse with eating or drinking and become constant and disabling. In some cases, the abdominal pain goes away as the condition worsens, but this is fairly uncommon. Other symptoms include nausea, vomiting, weight loss, diarrhea, oily/fatty stools or pale colored stool.
Treatment includes managing pain and surgery followed by antioxidant therapy. I would suggest you see a Gastroenterologist at the earliest for a quick relief for your mother.
