Anterior horn disease is a condition that affects the anterior horn cells, which are responsible for voluntary muscle activities, such as breathing, walking, swallowing & speaking. Anterior horn disease is characterized by the death of more neurons, which result in a prolonged & progressive motor weakness.
Anterior horn disease presents symptoms associated with the lower & upper motor nerves degeneration, weakness & muscle atrophy (for upper motor neuron). These signs could occur in various muscle groups, including the torso, legs, arms & the bulbar region. Symptoms of Anterior horn disease usually appear in ages of 50 to 70. Symptoms include muscle wasting, progressive weakness, muscle fasciculations, arms & legs spasticity, stiffness & overactive reflexes of tendons. Other patients experience serious symptoms such as slurred speech, dragging a foot or unilateral muscle wasting of the hands. Anterior horn disease has no known cause. However, genetic factors are important in determining a person's vulnerability to this disease.
For details on treatments, please visit a neurologist who would be able to explain to you the line of treatment better, based on symptoms present.
hi Kalpana. Your symptoms direct towards a spinal nerve injury. Did you have a recent fall or lower back injury that involved you being on bed rest? You must undergo MRI lumbar spine and then see an orthopedician for further intervention.

Yes, it can if you're not careful. Exercises that involve heavy lifting or high impact can put extra stress on your spine and make the condition worse. However, gentle exercises like walking, swimming, or stretching can actually help relieve pressure on your disc and strengthen the muscles around it....
