The replacement of the valve can be performed via two methods. Surgeons can perform open-heart surgery or minimally invasive surgery to operate on valves. 

In open-heart surgery, a long wide incision is made on the chest to access the heart. While smaller incisions are made in a minimally invasive procedure. The purpose of both surgeries is to replace the affected heart valve. 

The surgeon removes the diseased valve and places an artificial (mechanical or biological) in the same position. The type of replaced valve depends upon the patient’s health and choice. 

Post this, the incision(s) are closed to complete the process.
