This procedure is a same-day surgery, which means that you will get discharged on the very same day. 

Before starting the surgery, your doctor advice a blood test and chest x-ray, depending on the patient's medical history. These tests are done a few days before the surgery. You need to stop any blood-thinning medications before the scheduled surgery.

The doctor can use general anesthesia or spinal anesthesia, depending on your health condition.

If the general anesthesia is going to be used in the surgery, your doctor may ask you to fast for a few hours. This is necessary to eliminate the possibility of vomiting during and after surgery.

After the surgery, the patient is moved to the Postanesthesia care unit(PACU). The nursing staff closely monitors the patient and then transfer him/her to the outpatient unit once the anesthesia wears off. The spinal anesthesia wears off within a few hours of operation.

The patient may feel pain at the incision site after surgery. He/she need to follow the medication prescribed by the doctor. Swelling and discoloration may develop around the incision site. But it is normal.

Usually, the patient can get back to routine activities within a few weeks.

Like all surgeries, it also has some side effects. The surgery site will appear swollen and red. It may also be painful, especially when touched. As time passes, anti-inflammatory medications may reduce pain and inflammation.
