The tropical evergreen tree known as kratom (Mitragyna speciosa) belongs to the coffee family. It is commonly seen in Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand, and other South Asian nations. The leaves or extracts from the leaves have been developed as sedatives and stimulants. It has also reportedly been used to treat digestive problems, chronic pain, and opium dependency withdrawal. However, there haven’t been sufficient research studies to help understand the medical effects of kratom. As for medicinal usage, it hasn't been authorized either.
