You bring with you not only tremendous path-breaking medical experience, but much more, and what is that?
For a doctor, empathy is something much more essential than tech-savviness. In simpler words, quoting my example to convey the crux of the word 'human touch' I wish to convey that I am one of the leading technology users in cardiac surgery, who started robotic surgery way back in 2002 when it was unheard of anywhere in Asia. Yet, I have experienced that human touch and sensitivity towards people can do wonders! Although, a very simple gesture, it goes a long way in building trust leading to better response to treatment and cure. What prompted you to join Manipal Hospital?
I joined MH with the objective of doing something unique & to create a legacy of clinical excellence delivered with unmatched compassion & care. I joined this new medical facility in October 2018 and within a few weeks, we started operating patients coming from various parts of India & abroad. Since then, in such a short span, we have conducted close to 300 heart surgeries, mostly through robotic and minimally invasive methods. Very recently, we started bone marrow transplant. The motto of Manipal is to give responsibility to the clinician and leave them to do their best! What are the strengths of this young hospital?
Doctors are the main driving force at Manipal Hospital whose objective is to give undivided attention and ensuring quality care to patients. Our strength lies in the team of very highly qualified doctors, many having global exposure on some of the most evolved, comprehensive and state-of-the-art technology with dexterity. The branch of Electrophysiology in cardiology is manned by very proficient doctors. Specialities such as pediatric, obstetrics and gynecology not only treat pregnant women but also conduct weekly workshops such as Spandan on Sundays with pre-natal & ante-natal workshops for mothers. We have enviable teams in Oncology, Orthopaedics, Neurosciences, stroke management, kidney transplants, nephrology, urology, nuclear medicine, gastroenterology, Bariatric, ENT and an IVF setup. We also have outsourced departments like dental, ophthalmology, dermatology, psychiatry and physiotherapy. Diagnostics is one of the strengths of MH since it is a new hospital that is technologically well equipped. MH provides over 55 medical disciplines. What makes MH unique and footfall from foreign countries?
Trust, hope, and compassion are the three important defining work ethics of Manipal Hospital which started 15 months ago with 70 beds, out of a total number of 380 beds. 200 beds are operational now. Most of the patients we see are from Iraq, Uzbekistan, Bangladesh, Africa, and other countries. They completely trust us and it comes as a relief to them that there is a hospital offering quality healthcare services and being near to the airport, is a big boon for them. What are the upcoming medical facilities at MH?
We will start with liver transplants in a few months. For heart transplant too, we are expecting the approval soon from the licensing department. What is the contribution of private hospitals to India's health sector?
More than 60% of healthcare today is being taken care of by the private hospitals. Even the government has come to realize that the private healthcare sector is one of the most important partners for the success of Ayushman Bharat, a flagship initiative in healthcare. This fact could not be ignored, compelling revision of most of the procedures. Keeping in mind a fair consideration for private hospitals that need some margin to invest in the running costs and for infrastructure up-gradation which is often as well as very expensive. From where do you expect to get increasing footfall?
The footfall is increasing as the word is spreading around about the excellence in healthcare that MH offers. We are empanelled with all insurance and corporates. Since it is a tertiary and quaternary hospital, we expect more patients to come from across North India for their healthcare needs. Also, International patients will continue to grow as India continues to become a preferred healthcare destination. A commendable achievement worth mentioning is that we got NABH (National accreditation board of hospitals & healthcare) accreditation in record time, i.e., within a year of operation because of the unquestionable credibility of this hospital. How will you sum up this new journey with MH?
We believe our good work will be our unique signature brand which will help us grow & take care of the healthcare needs of our community. Also, read about da Vinci Robotic Surgery: Risks & Complications
