Dr. Anoop Mishra, Director and HOD - Diabetes and Metabolic Diseases, Fortis, is an internationally acclaimed researcher and scientist. He holds over 25 years of experience in research, teaching, service, community health intervention programmes directed towards Asian Indians, particularly for underprivileged people. Dr. Misra is also the Chairman of National Diabetes Obesity & Cholesterol Foundation (N-DOC). Dr. Misra completed his graduation and post-graduation from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi. He was a faculty of Internal Medicine and In-charge, Clinical Pharmacology Unit at AIIMS for over a decade. He taught at the Department of Endocrinology and Human Nutrition at the Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, USA. Many important scientific findings such as the new definitions of obesity, abdominal obesity and syndrome X in Asian Indians are credited to his name. He has been a member of various national and international organisations like the World Health Organization and National Control Programs for Diabetes and Cardiovascular Diseases. Dr. Misra has published over 300 scientific papers in international journals and is on the board of seven international journals. He is the recipient of the Dr. BC Roy Award (2006), the highest award for medicine in India, and the prestigious national honour, Padma Shri (2007).
