He has performed more than 15,000 arthroscopic surgeries for ligament repairs and reconstructions. His areas of expertise include knee surgery, joint replacement surgery, and arthroscopic surgeries.
Dr. Ashok Rajgopal completed his MBBS degree from Armed Forces Medical College, Pune in 1974 and obtained his specialization in Orthopaedics (MS Ortho) from All India Institute of Medical Sciences in 1979, followed by M.Ch. Ortho at University of Liverpool, 1983. His advanced specializations include FIMSA (International Medical Sciences Academy) and FRCS (Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh).
Dr. Ashok Rajgopal is one of the most experienced orthopedic surgeons in the country and is credited with the introduction of some revolutionary technologies in his domain, like the development of instrumentation used in total knee replacement surgeries. He carried out the first bilateral total knee replacement surgery in April 1987 and the first MIS unicompartmental replacement in March 2002. Dr. Rajgopal is also the first orthopedic surgeon in India who has carried virtual total knee replacement employing patient-specific instruments.
Dr. Ashok Rajgopal is a member of the Indian Orthopaedic Association, General Medical Council (UK), ex-president of the Indian Arthroplasty Association, fellow at the International Medical Science Academy, an active member of International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine (ISAKOS), and the founder Secretary of the Asia Pacific Arthroplasty Society. He is invited as guest speaker to numerous international medical conferences.
