Dr. Hemant K. Kalyan is one of Bangalore’s top Consultants in Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine and currently practicing as the HOD and Consultant - Orthopedics in Manipal Hospital, HAL Airport Road. He has started advanced arthroscopic surgery and the scientific treatment and rehabilitation of sports injuries in the city. Since its inception, this outpatient facility has served more than 8,500 patients with its comprehensive range of professional services.  After completing his medical graduation from Seth GS Medical College and KEM Hospital, Bombay, Dr. Hemant did his postgraduate studies and residency training in Orthopaedics from the same institution. He excelled throughout his academics and was awarded gold medals at the MS and D.Ortho examinations of the Bombay University in April 1989 and was also adjudged Best Resident in Orthopaedics. Thereafter, Dr. Hemant Kalyan moved to the UK to do a specialized clinical training and research in Sports Medicine at Queens’ Medical Centre. He was the first Indian to complete a Diploma in Sports Medicine from the Royal Colleges of Edinburgh in 1991. He was also instrumental in establishing and running the Nottingham University Sports Injury Clinic and was the team doctor for the Nottingham Rugby league Club during his time in the UK.  Post his brief stint in the UK, he then proceeded to do a clinical Fellowship in Arthroscopy & Knee Surgery at the University of Toronto, Canada, in 1992 and ran a Sports Clinic at the Orthopaedic & Arthritic Hospital, Toronto during his Fellowship training at this institution.  After returning to India in 1993, Dr. Hemant was appointed as a Consultant in Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine at the Bhagwan Mahaveer Jain Hospital, Lakeside Medical Center & Hospital, and Chinmaya Mission Hospitals, all prestigious medical facilities in the city. He has also been an advisor to the Sports Authority of India, South Centre, since 1994.  He believes in continuously updating his knowledge and skills and frequently travels overseas to participate in various specialty conferences and workshops all over the world. He is a life member of the Indian Medical Association, Indian Orthopedic Association, Indian Association of Sports Medicine, Indian Federation of Sports Medicine, Indian Arthroscopy Society, Indian Society of Hip and Knee Surgeons, Shoulder Society of India, Bangalore Orthopedic Society and Karnataka Orthopedic Association.
