Dr. Kunal Sarkar

Dr. Kunal Sarkar is a Senior Vice Chairman & Senior Consultant - Cardiac Surgery currently practicing at Medica Superspecialty Hospital, Kolkata. Dr. Sarkar is the renowned Cardiac Surgeons of Kolkata and practices coronary surgery as his pursuance of passion. Till date, he has performed over 18,000 heart surgeries with a success rate of more than 98%. During his graduation from Medical College, Calcutta, Dr. Sarkar won the Gold medal and 12 other awards in surgery. He then, moved to UK to pursue training in cardiac surgery in Cardiothoracic Centre Liverpool, St Mary’s Hospital, UK. His passion for cardiac surgery led him to the fellowship from Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh, and Glasgow and he has also been a faculty of Imperial College London.  Dr. Kunal Sarkar is the pioneer of  Beating Heart Surgery, Valve Replacement and Repair, Complex Coronary Grafting and Surgery for Heart Failure in the country and is very instrumental in popularizing Bloodless Surgery and Blood Conservation Surgery in India. Dr. Sarkar has also established one of the largest Cardiac centers in Kolkata, India. Dr. Sarkar has a very distinguished career and has been attached to India's and foreign's prestigious hospitals and institutes. Prior to Medica Superspecialty Hospital, Dr. Sarkar was associated with Peerless Hospital, Kolkata as a Consultant Cardiac Surgeon and NarayanaHrudyalaya group of Hospitals as a Vice President. Over the years, he has gained expertise in off-Pump CABG, Without the support of Heart-Lung machine, More than 90% cases, Bloodless Heart surgery, Complex Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery, Total Arterial Bypass Grafting Surgery – Off-pump (LIMA RIMA Y), CABG with Endarterectomy, Combined Surgery (CABG + Valve Surgery), Aortic Surgery (Aortic Aneurysm, Aortic Dissection), REDO Surgery (2nd time CABG, Valve Replacement Surgery), Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery, Surgery for Heart Failure, Surgery for Adult Congenital Heart Disease, Ventricular Assist Devices and ECMO. Dr. Kunal Sarkar is associated with the academic activities of IACTS and EACTS and is a passionate debater, orator, and writer. Dr. Sarkar is the President of the Calcutta Debating Circle (CDC), and chairs the largest live debate in India during Calcutta’s Festival of the Spoken Word’.
