Dr. MK Moosa Kunhi

Dr MK Moosa Kunhi the HOD and Senior Consultant of Cardiac Surgery and Heart Transplantation at VPS Lakeshore Hospital, Kochi, Kerala. He has been a Cardiac Surgeon for more than 29 years and has developed efficient skills in his field. His area of service includes heart transplantation, vascular and lung surgery, heart valve surgery, paediatric heart surgery and bypass heart surgery. He recieved training in heart transplant and artificial heart surgery from the renowned German Heart Institute, Berlin, Germany, where he was invited as a guest heart surgeon. His qualifications include an MBBS degree, MS- General Surgery and MCh- Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery. He further acquired fellowship from International Academy of Cardiovascular Sciences. He is considered as the pioneer of advanced technology of bypass operation (Beating Heart Surgery) in India. It is a process which has transformed all facets of cardiac surgery, from its cost to safety factors. Dr MK Moosa Kunhi holds to his credit over 16000 heart surgeries with an optimal success rate of 99.6%. He was also the first doctor to introduce bileaflet heart valve and Octopus stabilizer system in a beating heart surgery in India. He was the recepient of prestigious awards like Bharat Excellence Award (2011), The Red Cross Society Award (2003), Pratibha Award and Lifetime Acheivement Award (2011).
