Dr P Jagannath is currently Chairman at Department of Surgical Oncology at Lilavati Hospital and Research Centre and SL Raheja Hospital since 2002. He has been practicing for over 29 years and has been associated with Lilavati Hospitals for 19 years of his experience. Dr Jagannath completed his MBBS from Kurnool Medical College, SV University, India in 1978 and has won 10 medals throughout his course. After graduation, he undertook a postgraduate residency in General Surgery at JIPMER (Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research) and later went on to obtain MS (General Surgery) from University of Madras, India in 1982.
Dr Jagannath was the first oncologist in India to specialize in the treatment of Liver tumors - resection and non-resectional therapies - including RF ablation, Gall Bladder cancer - epidemiology, multimodal treatment, and surgery; Pancreatic resections; Sphincter conservation for rectal cancer. His special interests lie in Gastrointestinal Oncology and has performed over 200 pancreatectomies with a mortality rate of less than 5%. His surgical experiences are used as teaching videos which are popular among Indian surgeons.
Dr. Jagannath is also actively involved in various presentations and publications; he is the Principal Editor of the book 'Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Surgery: Current Concepts' (2002) and contributed to chapters of Recent Advances in Surgery and 9 other books. He has 75 research publications and 13 video tapes and CDs of his surgical techniques. He is also an active Fellow of National Academy of Medical Sciences (India), Indian Chapter of International College of Surgeons, American College of Surgeons and Royal College of Surgeons England.
