The renowned liver surgeon Dr. Prof. Tom Cherian spent 16 years working for the National Health Service (NHS) in England before returning to India to resume his practice. He is a liver specialist with 21 years of experience under challenging transplants (Split, Domino, Auxiliary), and he has even developed novel pediatric transplant methods.

Work and achievements of Dr. P Tom Cherian-

Throughout his 15-year liver surgical career, Dr. P Tom Cherian has carried out over 500 liver transplants, including over 50 on children and over 250 complex liver resections (cancer surgeries).

Since his return, he has made a significant effort to advance liver surgery and transplantation in India, particularly in the public sector. He performed the first successful liver transplant in numerous essential government facilities, including GB Pant Hospital in New Delhi, Osmania Hospital in Hyderabad, and NIMS in Hyderabad. He organized and carried out the first ten liver transplants in Andhra Pradesh, including the first-ever living donor liver transplant.
