Dr. Poovamma C.U. is a Breast Oncoplastic Surgeon of the Department of Breast Unit & Women's Oncology at the Narayana Institute of Cardiac Sciences in Bangalore. A physician with a great clinical acumen, she completed MBBS from the Kasturba Medical College in Mangalore and MS from the Shri B.M. Patil Medical College in Bijapur. Awarded the Fellowship in Breast Diseases and Cancer in 2011 from the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences in Bangalore, she is also associated with the Mazumdar Shaw Cancer Center. With a vast experience of over 9 years, Dr Poovamma has done a super-specialization in Breast Onco-plastic Surgery. With a special interest in Surgical Oncology & Breast Oncoplasty, Scar-less Surgery of the Breast (Mammotome Guided Excisions), Reduction Mammoplasty, Augmentation Mammoplasty, Microvascular Free Flaps for Reconstructions (DIEP, TRAM), S-Gap, ALT, Use of Prosthesis & Implants, Radio Immunoguided Occult Lesion Localization (ROLL) and Sentinel Node Biopsy (SLNB), she is the first graduate of the RGUHS Program for the Fellowship in Breast Diseases. Her research work includes the ‘Preoperative Serum Albumin and BMI as Indicators of Post Operative Morbidity and Mortality’, presented at the 27th Annual Conference of the Karnataka State Chapter Of Association Of Surgeons Of India in 2008 and at the National Surgical Conference of ASICON in 2009. Her notable publications include ‘Breast Cancer: Reversed Auxiliary Mapping (RAM): Feasibility of a New Technique’ (World J Surg.2011; 35(S1-S461): S399-400) and the ‘Breast Cancer Presenting in the Midline without a Lesion in the Breast: A Therapeutic Dilemma’ accepted online, for publication in Breast Diseases in May 2013. Her noteworthy presentations include a Poster titled “Triple Negative Breast Cancer- Incidence in India” poster titled “Synchronous Primary Transitional Cell Cancer Of – Ureter and Bladder – Rare Case Report” at the Annual Conference of the Karnataka State Chapter of Association of Surgeons Of India in 2008, and she received the Best Poster Award for ‘Immediate Micro Vascular Breast Reconstruction for Locally Advanced Breast Cancer’ at the Association of Breast Surgeons of India ‘ABSICON’ in Bangalore in 2011.
