The Chairman of the Department of Institute of Digestive and Hepatobiliary Sciences, Dr. Randhir Sud is an eminent doctor of Gastroenterology. He has been working to establish the therapeutic GI Endoscopy in India. He started the GI Oncology program in India. In 2008, he bagged the Padma Shri Award for his contribution in Gastroenterology. His expertise lies in Gastro Intestinal Endoscopy, Gastro Intestinal Cancers, and Hepatic diseases. He started his career at the position of Junior Residency in January 1979 at AIIMS, New Delhi. He also held the position of Senior Residency between 1982 and 1984 at AIIMS. He moved on as a consultant in GE at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in New Delhi in 1985.
Dr. Randhir Sud has a six-year experience in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students at AIIMS. He is an approved teaching faculty and examiner for the Diplomate National Board Examination in Gastroenterology conducted by the National Board of Examinations. Dr. Randhir Sud has also taught at the Harvard Medical School in Boston as a visiting professor in 1999. In 2005, he was also called as a visiting professor at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston, Texas and the University of Alabama, Birmingham, Alabama (U.S.A). As a medical student, Dr. Randhir Sud pursued the M.B.B.S degree from the Government Medical College in Amritsar in 1977. Dr. Randhir Sud further studied and became M.D. (Medicine) in 1981 at AIIMS, New Delhi, where he also attained the D.M. (Gastroenterology) degree in 1983. During his academic years, he won many golds and other medals for his performance in medical examinations.
