She completed her MBBS, MS, and DNB in General Surgery from St Johns Medical College Hospital, Bangalore. Dr. Sumana did Fellowship in Multiorgan Transplant Surgery (including Pediatric Transplants), Transplantation and Living Donor Liver Transplantation from Thomas E Starzl Transplantation Institute, UPMC, Pittsburgh, USA.

Dr. Sumana specializes in multi-organ transplant surgery including pediatric transplants, trauma surgery, living donor liver transplantation, and complex hepatobiliary surgery. She not only practices for the Columbia Hospital in Yeshwathpur, but also for other Columbia franchises like Columbia Asia Hospital, Whitefield and Columbia Asia Hospital, Hebbal.
