One of the first Cardiologists to start Coronary Interventions in India, Dr. Upendra Kaul is a Surgeon of national repute. Dr. Kaul is a pioneer of new techniques in Interventional Cardiology, including Percutaneous Cardiopulmonary Bypass, Rotational, Directional Atherectomy, Coronary Stenting, Percutaneous Laser Myocardial Revascularization, and many more. A faculty of several reputed universities in USA, Europe, Far East, China, Australia, as well as the G B Pant Hospital, PGIMER (Chandigarh), AIIMS in India, he has trained more than 350 full-time Cardiologists. With degrees of MBBS, MD (Medicine), DM (Cardiology) from the Maulana Azad Medical College in New Delhi, he has been bestowed with several fellowships, including the FACC, FSCAI, FCSI, FICC, FAPSIC, and the Fellowship of the Australian Heart Foundation. Prior to joining the Fortis Flt. Lt. Rajan Dhall Hospital, he has also worked with the Batra Hospital in New Delhi. An astute Cardiologist, Dr. Kaul has been bestowed with many awards, including the prestigious Padma Shri by the President of India in 2006, Dr. B. C. Roy National Award for the year 1999 in recognizing the best talents in encouraging development of specialties. Dr. Thapar Gold Medal for being the Best Student in General Surgery in 1970, Medtronic Award for the Best Scientific Paper at the Second National Conference on Pacing & Electrophysiology in 1983, Searle Award by the Cardiological Society of India during their Annual Meeting in 1986, Shakuntala Amirchand Prize by the Indian Council of Medical Research for research work in the field of Cardiac Pacing & Electrophysiology in 1987, Press India Award for Achieving Excellence in the field of Medical Sciences in 1992, and many more. Vice President of the SAARC Cardiac Society, Ex-President of the Cardiological Society of India, he has conducted several Interventional Live Demonstration/Surgery Courses. A committed physician, Dr. Kaul was in charge of establishing Cardiology Units at several hospitals in the Government and Private sector, including the CT Center at AIIMS, Batra Hospital, Fortis Hospital (Noida & Vasant Kunj Branches), and SSIHMS (Puttaparthy, Andhra Pradesh). Dr. Kaul is a member of various renowned organizations, including the Cardiological Society of India, American College of Cardiology, Society of Cardiac Angiography Interventions, SAARC Cardiac Society, European Society of Cardiology, and the American Heart Association.
