Dr. Jawali was the first to perform beating heart bypass surgery in India in 1994. He did India's first awake cardiac surgery in 1999. Along with these, he was the first to perform awake open heart surgery in April 2002. Dr. Vivek is the founder member of the International Society of Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgeons.
On the basis of his performance, he has been dignified with various awards like the Harvard University Lifetime Achievement Award for medical excellence in India, the Kempegowda Award for Outstanding Citizen, and Dr. B C Roy Award for Medical Excellence. Dr. Vivek Jawali is a council member of the Asian Association of Cardiothoracic Surgeons.
He completed his MBBS from MR Medical College in 1976 and MS in general surgery from Jagadguru Jayadeva Murugarajendra Medical College. Consequently, he continued his DNB in Cardiology from New Delhi in 1981. Dr. Vivek Jawali has treated numerous patients suffering from cardiac diseases in India.
