The liver sinusoids are unique capillaries because of the presence of open pores or fenestrae lacking a diaphragm and a basal lamina underneath the endothelium, which differ from other capillaries in the body. The capillary endothelium plays a very important role in regulating the exchange of macromolecules, solutes, and fluid between the blood and the tissues surrounding it.
