Why Choose Minimally Invasive Surgeries?

Minimally invasive surgeries are carried out through an existing body cavity or anatomical opening. They ensure a higher accuracy rate and health benefits.

Stones in the kidney, bladder or ureter generally require a surgery to extract the obstruction. The surgeries that are used for such cases are extremely common and barely affect the body. Such procedures are called minimally invasive surgeries as they are carried out by entering through an existing body cavity or anatomical opening. This ensures that there is minimum damaged caused to the skin or any of the body structures. Minimally invasive surgeries are beneficial to the patient in more ways than one.

  1. Less scarring - Minimally-invasive surgeries require no or very small incisions. This ensures that there are very less noticeable scars or none at all. The scars if any do not have a rugged/ jagged look.
  2. Less pain - Minimally-invasive surgeries lead to know or very les post-surgery discomfort/pain. The patient may require small doses of pain relief medications or none at all.
  3. Less tissue injury - Traditional surgeries require longer incisions that involve cutting through the muscle. Comparatively, muscles need a longer time to heal and since minimally-invasive surgeries do not incorporate large incisions, they are safe from any large-scale muscle damage.
  4. Less time in the hospital - Minimally-invasive surgeries also promise a shorter stay in the hospital, a quick recovery and resuming of normal chores soon.
  5. Low failure rates - Since minimally-invasive procedure incorporate video equipment, there is better visualization for the surgeon. This ensures better and foolproof procedures.

Robotic surgery

With the advancements in medical technology, there are various new surgical procedures that have entered the arena. One such is the robotic minimal-invasive surgical procedure. This is one of the most technologically advancement procedures and ensures that the most complex of surgeries are performed with equal finesse. A robotic procedure however, involves a different technological setup and expertise to perform. Not all medical facilities are equipped to carry out such procedures and it is best to undertake the procedure from a reputed institution that has a history of performing robotic procedures.

How does a robotic surgery work?

While performing such a surgery, the physician manages a console that controls four robotic arms. Out of these four arms, one holds a 3D camera while the other three perform the surgery with miniature surgical equipment. The benefits of this surgery are not very different from manually performed minimally-invasive surgeries in general.

Laparoscopic pyeloplasty

Laparoscopic pyeloplasty is a surgical procedure that is performed on the ureter. The ureter is the tube that squeezes the urine into the bladder from the kidney and if this tube is scarred or has become narrow, a surgery is required to reconstruct it. If the urine flow is irregular due to the blockage in the ureter, it may develop into an infection, excruciating pain or high blood pressure. Laparoscopic pyeloplasty is a minimally-invasive procedure that can also be performed robotically. However, the technologically advanced nature of the procedure requires a different level of expertise and technological setup and is not performed at all medical facilities.
