(Menorrhagia) Heavy Menstrual Bleeding may be a sign of hormonal imbalance and may indicate failure of ovulation. In a normal cycle, when the egg is released from the ovaries, progesterone, which is the female hormone most responsible for keeping periods regular, is produced.
