So you thought your weekend party had no impact on your body. You had a musical evening next with not much affect like diarrhoea or constipation. And you felt lively at the thought of visiting your friend today, only to wake up to a morning where you find fresh blood in your stool!
Well, you now remember that strange pain in your lower abdomen that hit you right after the party but that was for just a second. Or was it? You also recall how constipation plagued your routine the last week. But then, there was no pain.
Welcome to the real world!
It is a world full of contradictions today, and if your body hid facts from you, you should not be surprised at all! Piles are condition that results from enlarged blood vessels and occurs either in the rectum or in the anus, with no major pain or symptoms to notice.
Piles are medically known as haemorrhoids which are nothing but aggregations of enlarged blood vessels in the internal lining of rectum or anus. These blood vessels tend to burst when there is pressure or stool movement.

Reasons leading to Piles:
Causes of piles are not definitely known but the factors of stress at the site of enlargement have direct impact. Here is a quick revise of reasons that can cause piles:
- Excessive straining while toilet: This often results when you have constipation and therefore should go for excess water and fibre rich food in your diet.
- Overweight: Fat deposition in the body can cause hindered stool movement and generate extra pressure on the rectum and anal walls. As a result, the blood vessels may be affected due to the excess pressure.
- Pregnancy: The extra pressure in the body during pregnancy often causes dilation of blood vessels.
- Old age and family history are other reasons of piles.
So the next time you detect fresh blood in stool, do not panic. It is just an internal blood vessel saying goodbye!
Symptoms of Piles
There are 3 main symptoms of piles which are commonly seen in all patients. These are:
- Bleeding during or after passing stools: Black stools are signs of internal bleeding and should not be confused with fresh blood on stools. Fresh blood itself indicates that the internal lining rupture is either in the rectum or in the anus. Many a times bleeding continues for a little while even after passing the stool.
- Itchy sensation during defecation: There can be a continuous itch at the anus which aggravates during stool passage. This condition results from residual blood deposition at and around the anal opening.
- Post stool lumps: The occurrence of a lump that needs to be pushed back after the stool passage is a sure sign of piles.
Treatment:
- Piles can be treated at home without much hassle around doctor or clinical visits or medications.
- Regular healthy diet, exercise, weight loss regimes, adequate fibre and water in diet and a regular bowel movement helps get rid of piles symptoms easily.
Remember, the condition arises due to enlargement of blood vessels and will stop as soon as you remove all the reasons to allow such enlargement.
