Water is very good for us but it can only really be as good as the quality of the water you are drinking. Sometimes, the quality of tap water is just not great. There can be all sorts of sediment and chemicals in the water but it also might just taste awful. If you find yourself struggling to drink water, you might consider a filtered water pitcher to help you out. Check out these tips for choosing the best water filtration pitcher

What Does It Filter?

Water is meant to be healthy for you but you also want to check the quality of your water to be sure you're not drinking water that really may not be good for you. This is where a filtered water pitcher comes in. These pitchers typically are designed to filter for very specific things so always be sure to check just what the pitcher filters. A good sign to look for is whether or not the company of the pitcher is part of the Water Quality Association but sometimes you need to look deeper. Look for filtered pitchers that help to remove or reduce things like heavy metals, pollutants, and other contaminants.

The Filter Itself

Always look at the filter and be familiar with what it does and how long it lasts as well. You can check out this list of the best water filter pitchers for some great ideas of pitchers that really try to have the best filters. Look for NSF/ANSI standards and certification. If you can find a 53 standard on this rating, that is one of the best! We also recommend looking for a pitcher with a filter that lasts at least 60 days but some last up to 6 months.

Pitcher Size

You're going to want to pay attention to the size of the pitcher. They come in a wide variety of sizes, from small options to extra-large options and everything in between. Obviously, the larger they are the less they have to be refilled. However, when they are large they also take up more space. How much room do you have for a pitcher and how large do you want your pitcher to be? There's no right or wrong here, just whatever works for you.

Cleaning and Filter Changes

Your pitcher is going to need to be cleaned and washed on occasion. While you may not have to wash it for every refill, you do need to plan regular washes. Most producers recommend washing them about once a week in order to avoid bacteria, algae, and other junk. You also want to know how often you should be changing your filter and how challenging that task will be. Always check to know whether you will be able to easily get replacement filters but also how hard it is going to be to change that filter. What you will find is that some companies are constantly re-vamping their filters. While that is great as it typically means improvement, it also sometimes means a replacement filter can be hard to get your hands on.
