About Dr. Maheboob Mahamud Basade

Dr Maheboob Mahamud Basade is a Specialist with the Medical Oncology department at Sir H. N. Reliance Foundation Hospital and Research Centre. In 1992, Dr. Basade obtained his MD following his MBBS. Following this, he worked in the bone marrow transplantation unit and the department of medical and pediatric oncology as a junior and senior resident.

After receiving an International Scientist's Visiting Fellowship in Haematology/Oncology from St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, USA, Dr. Basade was given a fellowship at Cornell Medical Center's The New York Hospital in New York, USA. After that, he worked as a visiting fellow at the biggest bone marrow transplant facility in Europe, The Royal Marsden NHS Trust Hospital in Sutton, UK.

Awards and achievements of Dr. Maheboob Mahamud Basade-

• Dr. Basade was one of three individuals worldwide to be chosen for the Young Medical Oncologist Fellowship at the Institute Gustavo Rousse, Villejuif, Paris, France, which is administered by the European Society of Medical Oncology.
• He has also conducted transplants on patients from not only India but also Bangladesh, the United Arab Emirates, and Oman. At Jaslok Hospital, Dr. Basade founded the stem cell transplantation unit.
• Dr. Basade is credited with numerous firsts, including the first unrelated umbilical cord blood transplant in the history of thalassemia major, the first bone marrow transplant in the history of sickle cell disease in India, and the first unrelated cord blood cell transplant in the history of Krabbe's illness in Asia.
• In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Basade has served as Principal Investigator for numerous research projects involving phase II and III clinical studies on cancer and clinical trials of novel medications.
• He is currently working on a Ph.D. in ovarian cancer pharmacogenomics.
• Dr. Basade is an accredited DNB Medical Oncology teacher. He has served as the European Society of Medical Oncology's representative for the regions of Bangladesh, Pakistan, and India since 2009.
• He is a member of the Indian Society of Medical and Pediatric Oncology's executive body.
• Dr. Basade is also a Life Member of the Indian Association of Paediatricians' Paediatric Haematology-Oncology Chapter and a Member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology.

• Dr Basade is a Hon. Consultant Medical Oncologist at Saifee Hospital, Mumbai and Jaslok Hospital and Research Centre.
• Dr. Basade has previously held positions in the Tata Memorial Center Rural Cancer Project and the Nargis Dutt Memorial Cancer Hospital, Barshi, as Head of the Department of Medical and Paediatric Oncology. There, he also founded the peripheral stem cell transplantation and bone marrow transplantation units.
