Dr. Raman Deshpande obtained his MS degree from Tata Memorial Hospital in Mumbai, following his MBBS from Karnataka Medical College. Dr. R. Deshpande received his foundational training in medicine and surgery at Dharwad University's Karnataka Medical College in Hubli. He then completed his surgical training at Tata Memorial Hospital in Mumbai, the nation's premier cancer institute, after receiving a rank in Mumbai University's MS examination.

• Dr. Deshpande has received numerous honors and commendations for his services to the medical community.
• He received the fourth-highest civilian honor from the Indian government, the Padma Shri, in 2014.
