According to studies 90-95%of patients diagnosed with hypertension have primary or essential hypertension with unidentified cause, but a family history and unhealthy lifestyle (obesity, lipid rich diet and lack of exercise) thought to frequent important cofactors. Primary hypertension has no cure but regular medication can control it and one can lead a normal healthy life. Hypertension if not treated timely can be a great risk factor for heart, lungs and kidneys leading to heart stroke, brain hemorrhage, chronic kidney diseases and dementia. At the age of 29, I was diagnosed with high blood pressure when I was admitted to hospital after collapsing. I had been feeling a few signs of High blood pressure like acute headache, anxiety and stress but did not consider going to a physician but my health condition took me to hospital on for all good. I was stuck by a major nervous breakdown due to constant high blood pressure. My B.P was not even getting normal by IVs but somehow after two days it was normalized with medication. On my return back to home doctor strictly asked me to take medicines and remain relaxed. It was the time when I was going through a very stressful period of life. It was impossible for me to cope up with my struggles of heathAfter a few weeks I felt a bit better and then realized that I need to get rid of hypertension.I started research on its treatment and one thing that attracted me was life style change and I decided to follow it. At that time, I did not know if it really worked but I was confident and had belief that I will combat this health issue soon. Practicing a few lifestyle shifts, my high dosage of medicines reduced to only one per day and soon I will get rid of it also. I would like to share a few lifestyle modifications that actually worked on me and I hope it help most of peers as well.

It all starts with belief:

I read in a book "The power of the subconscious mind" that if you can control your subconscious mind then you can achieve anything. To get any goal in life you must have conviction, dedication and belief of achieving it. If your belief system is weak, goal achieving gets hard. So first develop a conviction by forcefully telling your mind that you will get out of this situation one day. One thing That I used to do was that I repeated several times a day that I will get rid of Hypertension one day and it worked for me.

Diet:

I read a lot of literature about diet and found that the DASH diet (Dietary approach to stop hypertension) was very fruitful. I added fruits, salads, plenty of water, whole grains and low-fat dairy products. I added green tea, low salt foods, and avoid bakery items and soft drinks but a few things that really made difference to my health are mentioned below Spinach banana smoothie:Banana is rich in potassium which is very good for controlling blood pressure.I use to take Spinach and banana smoothies on alternative days and power up my body with an organic and healthy diet.

Flaxseeds and yogurt:

Studies show that Flaxseeds have an amazing effect on normalizing high blood pressure if taken regularly so I take two tablespoons of flaxseed powder, mix it with yogurt, and eat it. I did this for about 2 months and find a significant decrease in my blood pressure

Beetroot juice:

On Alternative days I take beetroot juice which is also very beneficial both for my body and skin and helps maintain good blood pressure.

Exercise:

You will find a lot of articles presenting the benefits of exercise to maintain healthy blood pressure but I will state only those exercises which I personally practiced and found fruitful. Your healing takes time and it all depends upon your state of mind and conviction. Building a healthy regime and routine helps the process. I deliberately take a complete one hour daily for my physical exercise
  • Deep breathing for 10 minutes daily
  • Leg lifting with a wall for 10 minutes increases my heart rate
  • Laughter therapy and yoga for 10 minutes daily
  • Brisk walk for 30 minutes
  • warm baths once a week

Developing new Hobbies:

One primary reason of essential hypertension is stress in life. I realized that the best way to get rid of unwanted stress is to make yourself busy in activities that you love to do. To get rid of overthinking, I made myself busy in constructive hobbies. I tried to develop my inborn hobby of reading books. I read few books on mind body and peace which did a wonderful transformation to my personality. Travelling to beautiful places also helped my healing process. I started gardening and being near to plants and flowers excited my love of nature. I felt tranquility in vicinity of green plants. I started painting on canvas and explored new painting skills inside me. My friends and family loved them and few bought them from me. I also got a chance to showcase my work in art exhibition and got a lot of admiration.

Conclusion

These were not merely my pass time hobbies but main idea was to get myself busy with things that made me happy and progressive. I practiced all this routine firmly and whole heartedly with conviction to get rid of stress which ultimately bid goodbye to my high blood pressure. Primary hypertension is highly associated with the stress in your life. Once you learn the art to master your mind and control your subconscious mind, you can achieve anything in world. My advice to readers is that govern your mind and subconscious mind to be successful. The secret to control subconscious mind is conviction.
